Xhingyu Chen is a published author, independent art critic, and contemporary art specialist.
She was born in Changsha, Hunan and moved to New York City when she was a toddler. She graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont where she majored in Studio Art. She has worked for museums and galleries in New York City, including an internship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
She moved to Shanghai in early 2002, working for several galleries before joining the team at BizArt Art Center in early 2004. During her time there, she managed the artist-in-residency program, Artist Links, a project under the Cultural & Educational Sector of the British Council, and helped develop international programs. She left BizArt in late 2005 to work independently.
She is currently an art journalist and published author. She is a contributing writer for the International Herald Tribune, Art Asia Pacific, Yishu Journal, Nukta Art, and Sculpture Magazine. She was formerly the Art Editor for Time Out Shanghai and the Shanghai correspondent for ArtInfo.
